MOAA Connect - Discontinued June 2016

Following an extensive review and analysis of our online services by the staff and board of directors, MOAA has determined funding for MOAA Connect, along with its built-in Chapter Crossfeed, will be discontinued in June.

We launched this program — a social media platform for MOAA members and chapters — more than three years ago, anticipating widespread chapter and member usage would justify MOAA’s investment.

Unfortunately, it has proven to be one of the most underutilized of MOAA’s services — less than 4 percent of our chapters have a microsite on MOAA Connect, and an even smaller percentage of members engage on the Crossfeed. While some members regularly participate on the platform and find utility in the capability, the usage trended very low. In the last 18 months, approximately 12 percent of 1,800 eligible chapter leaders actively posted on the Crossfeed. Overall since 2012, only 1.2 percent of the 390,000 eligible MOAA members have established a MOAA Connect account.

The reality is MOAA cannot justify the investment in maintaining a service that is used so little.

MOAA’s chairman and president are committed to supporting critical programs that have demonstrated and maximize our collective return on investment. We will reach out via email to chapters that use MOAA Connect and explain their options and will pursue alternative online services for the future.
